Zhang Siqi’s arrival meant that the entire group for the trip was finally complete. They queued at the counter to buy bus tickets to Fulin, just in time to catch the departing bus. After purchasing their tickets, everyone hurriedly grabbed their suitcases and boarded the bus. Zhang Siqi sat next to her cousin. Niu Junjie shamelessly plopped down beside Shen Jing, seemingly abandoning his good friend Lin Yi without a second thought. Lin Yi didn’t mind; after boarding, he scanned the surroundings and took a seat at the back, where there were empty spots.

The bus slowly pulled away, heading toward Fulin City. Lin Yi took out a pair of white earphones, put them on, played some soft music, closed his eyes, and quietly savored this moment of leisure. To be honest, if it weren’t for Niu Junjie’s persistent invitations, he wouldn’t have come. But since he was already here, he decided to go with the flow.

The classmates on the bus chatted and laughed, enjoying themselves, except for Lin Yi, who sat quietly in a corner, listening to music, seeming somewhat out of place. A girl wearing a white baseball cap exchanged a few words with her cousin Zhang Siqi, then began scanning the surroundings, searching for a certain person.

Hmm?

Seeing Lin Yi sitting alone, eyes closed, immersed in music, the girl’s eyes gleamed with a faint smile. She pulled a camera from her backpack and snapped a photo of Lin Yi. Looking at the image on the camera, her cheeks flushed slightly, and the corners of her mouth lifted involuntarily. Meanwhile, Lin Yi was still lost in the music, completely unaware that he had been secretly photographed.

“Xu Xiaotang, what are you doing?” Zhang Siqi noticed her cousin’s action, turned to look back, and asked, “Are you sneaking photos of someone?”

“No, Cousin,” Xu Xiaotang blushed and quickly denied it. “I just thought this moment was beautiful, so I captured it.”

“Really?” Zhang Siqi was skeptical and glanced back again. What kind of scene could be so beautiful in an instant?

“Yes, Cousin,” Xu Xiaotang nodded earnestly, hoping not to reveal that she had taken the photo secretly, which would be embarrassing. Fortunately, she was wearing the baseball cap today; otherwise, Zhang Siqi would have noticed something was amiss.

“Hmm,” Zhang Siqi murmured softly and didn’t press further.

Soon, the bus arrived in Fulin City. After retrieving the pre-booked train tickets from their bags, they passed through the ticket check and boarded the train.

Woo woo woo~

The train slowly pulled away, heading forward.

This marked the official start of Lin Yi’s journey!

The train was far noisier than the bus. Moreover, Lin Yi and the others had bought hard-seat tickets. The cacophony was constant, with various sounds overlapping one another. Even with his earphones at full volume, Lin Yi could still hear the ruckus outside.

At the station, there were all sorts of people—some took off their shoes to pick their feet with their hands, then sniffed their fingers; some munched on spicy sticks with streams of snot flowing; some occasionally let out a series of farts…

This journey was destined to be far from peaceful.

At this moment, Lin Yi regretted his decision. Especially when the mixed odors floating through the air suddenly invaded his nostrils, choking him and stirring his stomach into turmoil, nearly causing him to vomit the breakfast he had eaten that morning.

Once aboard this ship of thieves, there was no escaping.

He just hoped to reach the destination soon.

The hard-seat carriage was divided into compartments of four seats. Lin Yi sat with a classmate and two unfamiliar girls. Meanwhile, Niu Junjie shamelessly squeezed in next to Shen Jing, sitting with three girls. The girl with the baseball cap, Xu Siqi, sat with a boy in ripped jeans and another male classmate.

The train did not move as Lin Yi wished; it proceeded steadily, neither fast nor slow. The scenery outside the window gradually receded rather than vanishing in an instant. Fortunately, Lin Yi sat by the window, not in the aisle seat. Otherwise, he would have surely lost his mind.

He had taken trains before, but usually he booked a sleeper berth, lying down and waking up at his destination. Niu Junjie had told him there were no sleepers available, only hard seats. Lin Yi had thought the hard seats might be only slightly worse than sleepers, but he hadn’t expected such a huge difference!

Across from Lin Yi sat two lively, pretty college girls, chattering nonstop like little birds. They talked about which boys and girls in their major had gotten together, who had broken up, then switched to discussing lipstick brands, which types were better, then which scenic spots were beautiful, and even entertainment gossip.

Their whimsical and wild train of thought nearly left Lin Yi struggling to keep up.

Among the two girls, one suddenly fixed her gaze on Lin Yi, then took out her phone. She glanced at the screen, then at Lin Yi, and uncertainly asked, “Are you Lin Yi?”

Lin Yi’s heart tightened upon hearing this. He had been quietly observing, just a bystander in this scene. But now, the spotlight was on him.

“Who’s Lin Yi?” Lin Yi replied, utterly baffled.

He didn’t want to go through the same charade again—pretending to be cheerful and friendly for twenty whole minutes! And this was just the beginning of the trip, or rather, the departure.

Reluctantly, he resorted to this desperate tactic.

The classmate beside him twitched the corner of their mouth upon hearing his words.

“Aren’t you Lin Yi? That’s impossible. This is definitely you,” the girl said, pulling up a photo on her phone and holding it in front of Lin Yi.

“Wow! Who’s this? How come he looks so much like me? Could he be my long-lost brother?” Lin Yi exclaimed, eyes wide in shock, unable to believe the striking resemblance between himself and the person in the photo.

The classmate awkwardly turned their head aside, afraid they might accidentally expose Lin Yi’s bluff.

“Isn’t it?” Lin Yi’s exaggerated act left the girl momentarily unsure.

Just then, Niu Junjie walked over. “Lin Yi, where’s your power bank? Lend it to me to charge my phone; mine’s dead.”

Lin Yi…

Charge?

Why don’t you generate electricity with your body to charge it yourself!

Lin Yi silently cursed in his heart. Of all times, he had to come now! Clearly looking for trouble!

“Watch yourself, or I’ll disown you,” he thought angrily.

“Ha ha,” the girl laughed heartily at Lin Yi’s awkward expression, clutching her stomach.

“Here, scram, and go as far away as possible,” Lin Yi shot Niu Junjie a cold glare and said in an annoyed tone.

“Got it,” Niu Junjie happily took what he wanted and left.

“Xiao Jing, the power bank.”

“Don’t call me Xiao Jing.”

“Xiao Jing Jing.”

Shen Jing…

You happily walk away, leaving me with all this embarrassment—this was exactly what Lin Yi wanted to say to Niu Junjie.

“Heh heh,” Lin Yi forced a couple of awkward laughs and said to the girl, “I’m just trying to keep a low profile.”

“Lin Yi, you know what? Everyone in our dorm loves listening to your songs,” the girl said excitedly.

“Please thank them for me.”
