Chapter 19: She Is an Impostor

Sheng Yukun nodded and said to Madam Sheng, “Mother, it is indeed true.” Upon hearing this, Madam Sheng’s expression softened into a gentle smile. She said, “You have done much for the Marquis household; it is only fitting that they treat you with respect. These past few days, I have suffered from a recurring ailment and have seen no one. When the servants mentioned that Yier was cured by a divine doctor, I thought it was some old immortal—but it turns out it was you, this young girl.”
Yun Qing looked at Madam Sheng and said, “Madam, your ailment stems from cold contracted in your youth. I will prepare a prescription for you; after three days of taking the medicine, you should see improvement.”
Madam Sheng nodded in gratitude. “Thank you, Doctor Yun.”
“Marquis,” Yun Qing turned to Sheng Yukun, a playful glint in her eyes, “You promised me that if anyone ever tried to keep me from entering the Marquis estate, you would break that person’s leg. Does that still stand?”
Sheng Yukun frowned. “Who would dare stop you? You tell me, and I will certainly stand up for you.”
Yun Qing then looked at Sheng Jintang. “When I came in, two guards told me that Miss Sheng had instructed that since the Marquis was unwell, if Yun Qing came, I was to be sent away. But it is strange—since I run the Sansheng Hall and am a physician myself, if the Marquis is truly ill, does she not want him healthy by blocking a doctor?”
Sheng Jintang shook her head anxiously. “N-No, that’s not it…”
Sheng Yukun’s eyes narrowed slightly. Although their blood had been mingled earlier, her deliberate obstruction of Yun Qing suggested a guilty conscience. He couldn’t help but suspect, asking, “Jintang, how do you explain this?”
Unable to argue, Sheng Jintang softened her tone, biting her lip as tears fell. “Uncle, I did not mean any harm. I just felt that Yun Qing, an outsider, coming frequently to our estate might have other motives…”
At this, Yun Qing laughed as if hearing the world’s greatest joke, causing Sheng Jintang’s pale face to flush with anger. She could only lower her head and weep, trying to win Sheng Yukun’s sympathy.
Yun Qing, weary of laughing, sighed softly and regained her cold expression. “Marquis, a promise once made is as unbreakable as a four-horse carriage. You won’t go back on your word, will you?”
Sheng Yukun frowned, his expression complex, but in the end, he waved his hand and ordered two servants to seize Sheng Jintang.
Sheng Jintang stared at Sheng Yukun in shock—Yun Qing possessed such power that Sheng Yukun was willing to break her leg for an outsider?!
“Uncle… you… will you really not spare our bond as uncle and niece?”

Hearing this, Sheng Yukun hesitated again. If he did not truly believe Yun Qing was his niece, how could he have made such an arrogant promise? Sheng Jintang was the cherished daughter of his brother. Would he really break her leg?
Seeing Sheng Yukun’s indecision, Yun Qing leisurely paced behind him and said, “Let me tell you more. A few days ago, Sansheng Hall was closed because I was gravely wounded, nearly at death’s door. Your beloved niece sent assassins that night to take my life, but Su Lan killed them instead.
“After the failed attempt, she even summoned vengeful spirits to harm me and swore not to rest until I was dead. Had King Ye not arrived in time, I would have long since perished. If you don’t believe me, Marquis, you may ask King Ye yourself.”
“What…” Sheng Yukun was shocked, grinding his teeth as he glared at Sheng Jintang. “I have taught you carefully since childhood, yet you commit such a heartless and vile deed!”
Sheng Jintang shook her head frantically. “Uncle, it’s not what you think…”
“With King Ye as witness, you still dare to deny it?” He turned to the servants. “Fetch the rods!”
Sheng Jintang’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Uncle, you really…”
Sheng Yukun glared at her fiercely. “My brother was always just and righteous. You are his daughter; committing such disgraceful acts, he would never tolerate! I have failed in raising you. This time, I will teach you a lesson on his behalf!”
“Wait.” Madam Sheng frowned, her expression darkening. Though she disliked Sheng Jintang, she was still family. Such harsh punishment instigated by an outsider was unsettling.
She sighed and said, “Doctor Yun, you cured Yier, and I am grateful and respectful of you. But no matter how unruly Jintang may be, she is still a young lady of the Sheng family. You, an outsider, repeatedly offending her is inappropriate.”
Hearing this, Yun Qing clicked her tongue and sighed toward Sheng Jintang. “Look, Madam Sheng still defends you.” She then turned to Madam Sheng with a mysterious smile. “But if Madam Sheng knew the truth, I think she would be far more disappointed.”
Sheng Jintang swallowed nervously. “There is no truth to it. Don’t spread lies!”
Madam Sheng frowned. “Miss Yun, explain clearly—what is Jintang hiding from me?”
“The real young lady of the Marquis household is me,” Yun Qing said, pointing at Sheng Jintang’s nose. “She is an impostor.”
“Impossible! The young lady is a fake?”

“But wasn’t there a blood test just now?”
“Yes, perhaps Miss Yun is suffering from hysteria…”
Instinctively, Sheng Jintang took a step back, panic written across her face as she looked at Madam Sheng. “Aunt, she’s lying! We had a misunderstanding before, and she’s now slandering me out of revenge! Don’t believe her one-sided words!”
Madam Sheng struck her cane on the ground again and looked at her seriously. “Miss Yun, the Sheng family bloodline cannot be muddled. You claim you are the true young lady—what evidence do you have?”
“Evidence?” Yun Qing raised a delicate brow and then took a silver needle from the table, pricking the finger of a nearby servant. As a bead of blood fell, she looked at Sheng Yukun. “Marquis, please cooperate.”
Sheng Yukun nodded. A drop of blood fell into the bowl, and remarkably, the two droplets merged seamlessly.
“What? Is this servant also related to the Marquis household?”
The servant looked terrified and said, “Master, I dare not! I dare not!”
“What about this water?!” Sheng Yukun was furious, slapping the water bowl over. He glared at the maid who brought it. “How dare you tamper with it under my watch, trying to confuse the Sheng bloodline? What punishment do you deserve?”
The maid knelt down, weeping. “Marquis, you wrongly accuse me; I knew nothing!”
Yun Qing exhaled softly. “It’s alright, the maid is not to blame.” She smiled gently at the maid. “Please fetch another bowl of water.”
The maid nodded quickly and hurried to prepare a fresh bowl.
Madam Sheng gave a subtle signal to the servant, who understood and nodded. He placed his blood in the new bowl, which did not blend with Sheng Yuting’s blood, confirming the water was untainted.
Yun Qing glanced at the skeptical gazes around her, then curled her lips slightly. She pricked her own finger, letting a drop of fresh blood fall into the bowl. Under everyone’s watchful eyes, the blood melded together perfectly.
