Chapter 121: My Wife Comes to the Office to Pick Me Up After Work.
"Mmm..."
His masculine scent, laced with the smell of alcohol, swept over her from all directions. Unlike the gentle kiss they had shared at the bar moments ago, this one was intense and fierce, as if he were trying to consume her whole.
In an instant, Shi Runrun felt her body go limp. It was as if all her strength had been sapped away by his kiss, and she began to lose her footing. Her face flushed, hot and burning.
Slowly, he began to lose control, his free hand roaming with reckless abandon. Shi Runrun immediately realized what he was about to do. Heavens, they were still in the courtyard, the driver was nearby, and Sister Li would surely come looking for them if they didn't go inside soon. Not to mention, she was pregnant—she couldn't possibly do that!
Recovering her senses, Shi Runrun grew alarmed. She grabbed his restless hand and hurriedly refused, "Xiao Xuezheng, no..."
But he remained unmoved.
Seeing that things were about to spiral out of control, Shi Runrun threw caution to the wind. She opened her eyes and bit down hard on his thin lips.
"Hiss..."
He let out a sharp intake of breath, and the metallic taste of blood filled their mouths. The tactic was effective; instinctively, he let her go.
Shi Runrun thought she had escaped, but even though he released his lips, he kept her pulled tight against his chest, pressing her firmly into his embrace. He stopped kissing her, but moved his lips to her ear, whispering softly, "Runrun, let's have a child soon..."
The sigh-filled sentence, laden with longing and hope, left Shi Runrun stunned. She didn't understand why he would say such a thing in that tone. In that moment, she had an overwhelming urge to tell him that she was already pregnant—that she was already carrying his child. She truly had their baby inside her.
But just as the words reached her lips, her reason blocked them. No, she couldn't tell anyone, not if she wanted to ensure the baby's safety. The car accident that had taken her previous child had left her truly terrified.
The next second, he whispered against her ear again, "No matter what happens in the future, please trust me, okay? Don't doubt me, don't question me, just trust me unconditionally..."
Shi Runrun was silent.
She didn't understand why he was saying these things now. Had something happened? Of course, they were husband and wife, and she would naturally trust him—as long as he did nothing to hurt her, she would believe him without reservation.
The next morning, the sunlight streamed in, and Shi Runrun slowly opened her eyes. She wasn't met with the sight of a white ceiling, but by the man’s handsome, deep-featured face, magnified by proximity. She blinked her hazy eyes, and as consciousness returned, she realized his heavy head was resting on her chest, using her as a pillow.
It seemed that whenever they slept together, he loved resting against her heart; when she had asked him about it once, he said it felt comfortable. But every time she woke up like this, Shi Runrun felt as though she could barely breathe.
As she mused, the man opened his dark eyes. Seeing her staring at him, he leaned down to kiss her. Shi Runrun’s face turned red, and she reached up, cradling his handsome face to block his movement.
Xiao Xuezheng, denied his kiss, furrowed his dark, sword-like brows.
Seeing his displeasure, Shi Runrun complained, "You went out drinking in the middle of the night and came back acting crazy. You wore me out until dawn, and you wouldn't let me go, holding me so tight I felt like I was being flattened!"
Xiao Xuezheng’s brow furrowed even deeper. He pulled back slightly and asked in a low voice, "I was drunk last night? Why don't I have any memory of that?"
Shi Runrun huffed at him, "How would you know if you were drunk?! I had to drag you back from the bar myself! Let me tell you, don't you dare stay out drinking that late again. If there's a next time, I'm not helping you!"
Hearing her and seeing that she was finally starting to look after him, Xiao Xuezheng curled the corner of his lips. He reached out to stroke her delicate cheek, then lowered his gaze to look into her clear, dark eyes, asking softly, "It was hard on you last night, my wife. But since I was drunk, did I say anything strange?"
Shi Runrun thought of his two sentences from the night before—one about having a child soon, and the other about trusting him unconditionally. Both had been said in such odd tones.
She didn't say it, though, and instead countered, "What counts as strange?"
"Do you remember what I said?" His expression darkened imperceptibly.
Shi Runrun shook her head. "I forgot. Who remembers the ramblings of a drunkard?"
Xiao Xuezheng’s expression relaxed, and a smile reappeared on his face.
After washing up, Xiao Xuezheng went downstairs first. Considering how late she had stayed up taking care of him, he told her to sleep a little longer and instructed Sister Li not to wake her too early.
Shi Runrun did feel exhausted. Having effectively pulled an all-nighter, her whole body ached. She took his advice, crawled back under the covers, and fell back asleep.
To her surprise, she slept until two in the afternoon. It was only because Sister Li couldn't bear to see her go hungry that she knocked on the bedroom door to wake her.
Shi Runrun rubbed her sleepy eyes, got up to wash, and headed downstairs for a meal that served as both breakfast and lunch. To help her conceive, Sister Li still stewed nourishing soups for her every day. Previously, Shi Runrun had felt it wasn't necessary, but her perspective had shifted. She was pregnant now, and for the sake of the baby, she had to ensure she was getting enough nutrition. She obediently drank all the soup she had once disliked.
By the time she finished, it was three o'clock. With nothing to do, she sat on the living room sofa and turned on the television. Suddenly, her phone rang; it was Xiao Xuezheng.
"What is my wife doing right now?"
Shi Runrun rolled her eyes and said helplessly, "I'm answering your call!"
The CEO on the other end was silent for a moment. He gave two light coughs and stated the purpose of his call: "I'll be late getting off work tonight. Come to the office to pick me up."
Before Shi Runrun could consider or refuse, he hung up.
Shi Runrun stuck her tongue out at the phone and muttered, "Tch, dictatorial, overbearing CEO!"
Sister Li, who had been listening from the side, couldn't help but laugh. "Oh, young mistress, the young master is thinking of you so much that he wants you to pick him up from work—it just shows his heart is full of you! Hurry up and get ready; I'll have the driver take you to the office later!"
