Chapter 4: The Most Impressive Restaurant
The storage room was filled with shelves and cabinets of varying heights, neatly arranged with numerous storage bags. Inside them were Mu Tong’s daily necessities, ingredients for the restaurant, seeds, the fish she raised, hunted game, and so on. Naturally, there were also various elixirs she had concocted, magical artifacts, formation plates and flags she had crafted, and puppets.
Mu Tong gathered the mature taro from the field. After a leaf returns to its root, the field was once again empty and desolate.
Having exhausted her spiritual power, Mu Tong decided not to plant anything further.
After sowing the field full once more with spiritual rice seeds, she left them to grow freely. She planned to nurture them tomorrow when her spiritual power had recovered.
“Little wife, are you planning to open a restaurant?” Yun Feng swallowed hard. His persistent following of Mu Tong was actually driven by his craving. After all, Mu Tong’s cooking was renowned throughout Hidden Immortal Town—no one else’s could compare.
Otherwise, the townsfolk wouldn’t secretly call Mu Tong’s establishment the best restaurant around.
What made it the best?
First, the restaurant’s opening hours were irregular; second, guests had no choice in what they wanted to eat—whatever Mu Tong cooked was what they had to eat; and finally, the prices were high, and how much each customer paid depended entirely on Mu Tong’s whim.
Such a formidable restaurant—would it do well?
The answer was yes! Very well!
Not for any other reason than Mu Tong’s dishes, though lacking in presentation, were astonishingly delicious. These immortals lived long lives and, aside from cultivation, had a great fondness for good food.
Thus, even though Mu Tong’s small restaurant had no signboard and poor service, it could not deter these food-loving immortals.
Many had designs on Mu Tong’s restaurant, but all feared the wrath of the Divine Mountain and dared not make a move. Besides, Mu Tong had never left the town, so there was never an opportunity to act against her.
Opening a restaurant? Mu Tong initially intended to, but seeing Yun Feng drooling, she lost her urgency.
“Want to eat? First, finish planting this batch of spiritual rice!” Mu Tong’s eyes twinkled. Having such a laborer was too good to waste.
Upon hearing that once the rice was harvested there would be food, Yun Feng immediately set to work. After a series of spells, the spiritual rice matured and was stored in Mu Tong’s prepared storage bags.
Glancing at Yun Feng, Mu Tong said calmly, “Don’t rush, there’s more.” She then took out a large handful of fruit seeds for Yun Feng to plant.
Yun Feng’s face fell. For the sake of good food, he resigned himself to planting watermelons, Hami melons, muskmelons, grapes, mangoes, coconuts, lychees, longans, jujubes, and more.
Mu Tong smiled brightly. “That’s right! You come over all the time, so it’s only fair you work a bit. No free rides! Cultivators of the Divine Spirit realm are truly different—the spiritual power in the fruit they help nurture far exceeds what I can produce on my own.”
Mu Tong only stopped once all her empty storage devices were fully filled. She secretly lamented why she hadn’t crafted more storage devices during her free time.
Yun Feng excitedly followed Mu Tong into the kitchen, quickly rushing into the restaurant to secure a seat. Without a seat, one could not enjoy the delicacies. Mu Tong recognized reservations by seat, not by person; once, immortals had even paid high prices just to secure a seat.
But these wealthy immortals would never forgo good food for money—they were no fools.
Having secured a seat, Yun Feng sent a message to his mother: “Mom, little wife is opening the restaurant. Hurry up, or there won’t be any seats left.”
His mother, affectionately known as Fat Sister, was a genuine foodie. Whenever Mu Tong opened her restaurant, she was the first to arrive.
Sure enough, in less than a minute, Yun Feng saw his mother transform into a brilliant cloud, swiftly flying in and sitting beside him.
“Hehe, good thing I’m not late.” Fat Sister exaggeratedly inhaled deeply. “Little Tong Tong hasn’t opened the restaurant in ages—I’m starving for her food.”
Fat Sister wasn’t actually fat. Her real name was Yang Yuanyuan, with a figure reminiscent of the famed beauty Yang Guifei—plump but not overweight. Her features were delicate, with a round face and large eyes. Because of her round face and full figure, everyone in town called her Fat Sister.
Fat Sister didn’t mind; she found the nickname endearing. Besides, her husband said it was much more approachable than calling her “Divine Lady So-and-So.”
She looked at Yun Feng with affection: this child had been hard-won. It was said that the higher one’s cultivation, the harder it was to conceive. She had heard that Hidden Immortal Town had good feng shui, so she went to great lengths to obtain a teleportation token to the town.
Sure enough, less than a century after living there, she conceived. Unexpectedly, the child was a genius from birth. However, whether or not her child was a prodigy, she loved him all the same.
It was worth noting that among goddesses of her level, very few had offspring. Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but feel proud: no matter how dazzling others looked, without heirs, what could they compete with her for?
Fat Sister’s husband was a great power, a dominant figure even in the Divine Realm. Though he doted on her endlessly, she still feared other goddesses vying for him—after all, he was both cultured and martial, and handsome besides. Many female immortals and goddesses sought to share his bed.
Having Yun Feng finally put her heart at ease. Who could steal the bond between father and son? Even if you were stunningly beautiful and caught her husband’s attention for a while, could you sever their blood ties? Beauty is fleeting, even for goddesses with eternal youth; there are many ways to ruin a face.
Fat Sister was no naive believer. Having cultivated to her level, she had taken many immortal lives. Anyone who dared covet her husband would face her wrath and retaliation.
Taking the spiritual fruit Yun Feng handed her—a slice of cut Hami melon—she ate gracefully. Having a son was truly a blessing; a little appetizer before the meal! Smiling, she looked toward the kitchen with anticipation.
The kitchen’s aroma, carried by Fat Sister’s gaze, gradually spread beyond the restaurant and onto the street.
“What’s that smell? Could it be that the best restaurant is open today?” The immortals and divine beings on the street sniffed eagerly. Yes—the fragrance was wafting from the far end of the street.
These food-loving immortals surged forward, rushing to the best restaurant. Even newcomers, though unaware of the reason, followed the crowd.
In no time, the small restaurant was filled with people seated at ten or eight immortal dining tables.
“What’s going on?” An immortal clearly visiting Hidden Immortal Town for the first time asked a friend, a local immortal.
“You’re lucky. Your first time here, and you catch the best restaurant open for business,” Zhang Jiang said, patting Wang Liang on the shoulder. “That guy Wang Shi has come here three times just to eat at the best restaurant—each time it was closed.”
