Chapter 35: The Eye of Truth

So Luxi directly posted a leave request in the group chat, and unexpectedly, Teacher Qin actually agreed. The agreement came so readily that it left Luxi somewhat at a loss. "That simple?" Teacher Qin replied, "Students who don’t want to come can skip it, but then there won’t be any rewards."
【Ding!】
【Attention players: the Supreme Points Edition event is about to be triggered. Only one spot available. Players, please prepare yourselves.】
The game system, silent for a long time, suddenly spoke, stirring a commotion among the players. Supreme Edition? That definitely meant huge points.
"I'm a bit tempted," Meng Yuanyuan muttered, "but with only one spot, I’ll just play it safe and be a nobody." For someone like her, a small fry, going out didn’t guarantee getting the Supreme Edition points gift pack, but it would definitely make her cannon fodder.
Ji Chenling sent a message: "Don’t get involved in those things." Luxi replied with a "Got it" emoji.
"Bang!" Someone knocked heavily on the dorm door.
"Who is it..." Meng Yuanyuan began, but Luxi quickly covered her mouth. The girl silently shook her head at her.
The knocking continued, growing louder and more violent, as if something was battering the door. The noise was deafening. Other dorms seemed oblivious to the sound. The knocking lasted more than ten minutes before finally ceasing.
"Should we go check?" Zhang Qiulan looked pale; her old heart was clearly shaken. Luxi shook her head. No going out—just act like a turtle hiding in its shell. According to horror story logic, going out meant certain death. Knowing the mountain had tigers, she chose to retreat.
Suddenly, a scream pierced the air. Footsteps scattered wildly in the corridor, with shouts of "Fire! Run!" and similar cries.
"Fire?" Gu Yun stood up nervously.
"I think it’s fake," Luxi said from behind the door. Everything felt too coincidental. They decided to gamble—no going out. If the sky fell, they’d just cover themselves with their blankets.

【Congratulations to player Jiang Yanyan for obtaining the Supreme Edition Points Gift Pack. Points can be redeemed within 24 hours; please redeem promptly.】
When the system’s voice sounded simultaneously in the players’ minds again, envy rippled through the group. The player chat was abuzz with excitement over the news.
Luxi, hiding in the dorm and not venturing out, had no idea what was happening in the classroom. All she knew was that yet another group of players had died in the game’s instance world. Whenever a player failed and met a brutal end within the instance, the group leader, Ji Yunxuan, would immediately kick that player’s account out of the small group chat.
Now, only eleven players remained alive. By noon, the fog outside had cleared.
"Let’s take a stroll around campus while the sun is shining bright," Meng Yuanyuan suggested.
Just then, Ji Chenling also sent a message: "Want to come down for a walk?"
Luxi replied, "Alright."
Dressed and ready, when Luxi reached the bottom of the dormitory building, she found Ji Chenling already waiting under a tree.
"The school is holding a spring outing," Ji Chenling said as he approached, casually taking Luxi’s hand. "I heard that the school holds a spring and autumn outing every year, but every four years there’s an accident during the spring outing."
"What kind of accident?" Meng Yuanyuan asked. "Did someone die?"
Ji Chenling nodded. "The entire school bus disappeared on the road once, but four years later, the next spring outing encountered a traffic accident at the very spot, involving the same bus from four years ago."
The campus was lively during the day, bustling with people. With the spring outing approaching, everyone was excitedly preparing their supplies.
A group was walking toward them.
"What’s the Real Eye?"
Jiang Yanyan was at the center of the crowd, linked arm-in-arm with Ji Yunxuan, a smile on her lips. Not long ago, during a card-guessing game with Teacher Qin, she had beaten her outright. With Ji Yunxuan’s coordination, she imitated Ji Chenling’s style and severed a head in the game. She also redeemed a Flame Burn skill using points.
Skills or tools redeemed with points were completely different from ordinary items. Regular fire might burn game-world ghosts away but they could revive after a sleep. But points-exchanged items were unique. Points were rare and precious, earned one by one as players cleared instance worlds, so players used them sparingly.
This victory automatically awarded the gift pack to Jiang Yanyan, who redeemed a permanently usable Real Eye. She had possessed this skill before but only as a single-use item.

This time it was different—unlimited uses.
The Real Eye could see through all disguises, including undercover agents. It could even detect traps and loopholes set by ghosts, making it an extremely practical and powerful skill.
Luxi recalled that a similar scene was mentioned in the original novel. She hadn’t read that chapter but had seen spoilers in the comment section. The Real Eye was considered the heroine Jiang Yanyan’s greatest ace up her sleeve; possessing it was akin to activating a god’s perspective.
Jiang Yanyan glanced up, caught sight of them, and greeted with a smile, "Xiaoxi, Yuanyuan, you’re both here? What a coincidence."
"Sis, let’s go to the supermarket," Ji Chenling said, turning his back to the group, his eyes treating everyone but Luxi as invisible air.
Jiang Yanyan’s smile faded. Again. What was wrong with this man? Ignoring her repeatedly like this. She could not accept it.
Men usually fell at her feet, but now she was met with perpetual disregard. She began doubting herself, questioning if her charm had faltered.
Jiang Yanyan slipped away from Ji Yunxuan’s arm and quickly caught up to Ji Chenling, calling out, "Ji Chenling, is there some misunderstanding between us? Where did I—"
Before she finished, her eyes suddenly widened, her gaze fixed on Ji Chenling’s face, stunned...
Such a stunningly handsome and bewitching man! His natural noble aura far surpassed Ji Yunxuan’s by hundreds of times.
That face could make all women scream.
In her life, Ji Yunxuan had been the most handsome man she’d seen; he was also the heir to the Ji family. Being favored by such a man had been her greatest pride.
But now, the man before her, Ji Chenling, was almost inhumanly beautiful.
With such a breathtaking appearance, why hide his true face? Was Ji Chenling’s skill disguise?
Seeing how close he and Luxi were, almost inseparable, did Luxi already know his real face?
No wonder... no wonder Jiang Yanyan always felt Ji Chenling’s aura didn’t match his plain appearance.
Seeing Jiang Yanyan’s increasingly strange look, Luxi was puzzled. "What’s wrong?"
Ji Chenling took her hand and turned to leave.
"Wait!" Jiang Yanyan hurried after him, cheeks flushed, eyes hopeful, "I think there may be a misunderstanding between us. Can we talk?"
She completely ignored Luxi, her eyes locked onto Ji Chenling, her expression earnest.
