Volume One, Chapter Seven: Could Your Ex-Husband Be Doctor Ye?
Ye Tian was slightly surprised.
"Interesting..."
"It seems that Li Qingcheng is indeed worthy of trust..."
The corners of Ye Tian's mouth curled up slightly before he turned and walked away.
...
As the evening lights flickered to life, the clock struck six.
A luxurious motorcade belonging to the Li family, resembling a long, glittering dragon, arrived slowly along the wide street and came to an orderly halt in front of the resplendently decorated entrance of the Tianlong International Hotel.
Well-trained bodyguards stepped forward in unison, opening the car doors with practiced efficiency.
Li Qingcheng’s elegant figure emerged from the vehicle. She wore a custom-made evening gown that shimmered as if infused with starlight. There was no doubt that the moment she appeared, her innate cold, glamorous temperament and unique charm acted like a magnet, drawing countless gazes of astonishment, admiration, and infatuation. For that moment, the world seemed to stand still for her, with every focal point converging upon her.
Behind her, Ye Tian, dressed in casual attire, stepped out of the car quietly and walked into the hotel on his own, attracting little attention. Following closely behind him was Li Cheng, dressed in a sharp suit.
"Brother Tian, why are you in such a hurry?"
Li Cheng caught up and whispered, "Brother Tian, there are quite a few media outlets here for the press conference tonight. Can’t you show your face a little?"
"No, no, no. We had an agreement that I’m only here to eat. Don’t go causing trouble for me." Ye Tian didn't stop his pace, intentionally dodging the cameras.
"Fine, I’ll take you inside, then."
Li Cheng felt helpless regarding Ye Tian’s instructions, yet he found them impossible to refuse; the pressure he felt from his boss was far beyond what he felt from his older sister.
...
Inside the banquet hall, the scene was grand and imposing, bustling with activity. Celebrities, business moguls, media elites, and specially invited guests filled the vast space.
The guests were dressed in magnificent attire—luxurious custom gowns and impeccably tailored high-end suits—reflecting the brilliance of the shimmering lights. Their every gesture exuded an air of nobility. They gathered in small groups, whispering about the latest industry trends and fashion news, or paused by long tables laden with exquisite delicacies and rare wines, sipping the refreshments with elegance. Laughter and chatter rippled through the crowd, creating a lively atmosphere.
...
Shen Yuwei had also changed into her most beautiful evening gown today. The stunning dress clung to her figure, and the shimmering diamond ornaments sparkled like stars in the night sky, exuding an inexplicable charm with her every move.
Accompanying her was, of course, her "white moonlight"—Su Botao. Su Botao was also dressed to the nines in a crisp suit, his dark hair meticulously combed and greased until it was slick and smooth, not a single strand out of place.
They held crystal-clear champagne glasses, the golden liquid swaying gently with their movements, forming a fine layer of foam. They moved through the gaps in the crowd with ease, like two butterflies preening in a vibrant garden. Every so often, they would stop to chat cordially with someone before taking a delicate sip of champagne.
Shen Yuwei was well-versed in such superficial social occasions, managing them with ease. What pleased her most were the compliments she and Su Botao received from acquaintances. Phrases like "a perfect match," "a match made in heaven," and "the golden boy and jade girl"... although they were mere polite flattery, they still delighted her. She relished these conversations, which were mostly empty pleasantries, feeling that the evening was well worth the trip.
However, someone just had to ruin her mood.
"I heard that the formula for the Li family's Youth-Preserving Pill came from a divine doctor named Ye Tian..."
Some of Shen Yuwei's business partners were gossiping. Hearing the name Ye Tian, Shen Yuwei’s expression became somewhat unnatural. But the gossiping women, oblivious, continued their chatter.
"Ye Tian? A divine doctor? Where did this divine doctor come from? How come I’ve never heard of that name?"
"I haven’t heard of him either. There’s no one like that in Nanjiang..."
"Could he be from out of town?"
They looked at each other, shaking their heads in confusion.
"Oh, I remember now. Yuwei, didn't your husband have the name Ye Tian as well?" a noblewoman suddenly turned to ask Shen Yuwei.
"Don't talk nonsense. Ye Tian is just my ex-husband; I have nothing to do with him anymore!" Shen Yuwei hastily distanced herself.
"Ah, divorced, is he? No wonder you have a new protector by your side whom we don't recognize," the ladies whispered, beginning to judge Su Botao, with some even calling him a "pretty boy."
Shen Yuwei’s expression turned awkward, and she instinctively looked at Su Botao, fearing he might be offended.
However, Su Botao didn't seem to care. He patted the back of Shen Yuwei’s hand and joked in a low voice, "Could this Ye Tian really be your ex-husband? Why don't you go ask him if he has the pill formula?"
Shen Yuwei frowned, her expression one of utter disdain.
"He is nothing but a complete and utter loser. All these years, besides doing laundry and cooking every day, he has made almost no progress..."
"How could a wimp like him possibly possess a priceless treasure like the Youth-Preserving Pill formula?"
"If he really created the Youth-Preserving Pill, would he have ended up a homeless stray?"
Shen Yuwei went on like a machine gun, belittling Ye Tian until he was worthless. Hearing this, Su Botao’s expression improved significantly.
In truth, he was very annoyed by the "ex-husband" label. He always felt that even though he had won Shen Yuwei’s favor, he was merely picking up leftovers, which made him feel like he was consuming Ye Tian’s scraps. Had it not been for maintaining his image of magnanimity, Su Botao would have mocked Ye Tian for being a loser when he signed the divorce papers.
Being looked down upon by the noblewomen just now had filled Su Botao with rage, and he hated Ye Tian even more for it. He had intentionally provoked Shen Yuwei, wanting to use her words to insult Ye Tian and soothe his own wounded ego.
It seemed his plan had worked. Su Botao was very satisfied with Shen Yuwei's performance and chimed in from the side.
"That's true..."
"It must just be a coincidence of names."
"With that pathetic look of his, how could he possibly deserve the title of 'Divine Doctor Ye'? Next time we see him, we should suggest he change his name, haha!"
