Chapter Thirty-Five: The Necromancer’s Herb
Evil Nine arrived at this lifeless swamp—a place that was the dreaded Hell of the Death God, striking terror into the hearts of cultivators across the Thunderstorm Continent. Here resided the Skeleton Death God, who, relying on the thick aura of death in the Death God's Hell and wielding the Blade of the Death God, had defeated three mighty Divine Refinement cultivators.
Her only regret was her inability to leave this hellish domain; otherwise, the Thunderstorm Continent would surely be engulfed in endless bloodshed and turmoil.
After half an hour, the deathly aura on the ground formed a hundred-zhang-high tornado. At its crest stood a figure clad in heavy armor of death, revealing only a pair of eyes smoldering with ghostly flames. Her voice was light and cold, like a sharp dagger piercing Evil Nine's soul.
She said, "Why have you come? I warned you—if you ever returned to the Death God's Hell, I would kill you and claim your Evil Dragon bloodline."
Evil Nine replied coldly, "Last time, you asked for the Heavenly Fox bloodline. Today, I have brought it as promised. I hope you will keep your word and grant me the Death Spirit Grass."
The Death God responded, "Young one, I spared your life before because you were willing to give up everything for your beloved. The Heavenly Fox bloodline is important to me, but what you offer is far from sufficient.
The girl in your arms possesses not only the Heavenly Fox bloodline, but also the Evil Dragon bloodline—both pure. Is she your child?"
"Indeed," Evil Nine said. "I was drawn into a conspiracy and, seizing the opportunity, acquired this infant. Her destiny is tragic; even if I didn't bring her here, others would use even crueler methods against her.
She is still young, and though her bloodlines are pure, they are sparse. I ask you to raise her, and gradually extract her bloodlines, but spare her life."
The Death God's overwhelming pressure bore down on Evil Nine. With a gesture, the child gently floated into her hands. "I agree. Such a beautiful child. This hell is filled only with deathly aura; now I'll let her become its flower. Hahaha!"
Only when the child was in the Death God's hands did the crushing pressure on Evil Nine vanish, leaving him powerless to resist. He felt as if he might be shattered at any moment.
Resigned, he asked, "May I have the Death Spirit Grass, then?"
"Rest assured, I keep my word. Take it. If you advance to Divine Refinement, you may visit your child anytime. Whether she will recognize the father who abandoned her will be her choice."
With a wave, a tuft of pale, deathly grass flew into Evil Nine's hand.
"Thank you for sparing her. I swear I will return, and when I do, I will take her away. Farewell!" Evil Nine transformed into a rainbow and vanished beyond the horizon.
The gray flames in the Death God's eyes flickered gently. She cradled the girl in her arms, the tornado reversed, quickly sinking back into the deathly swamp.
Evil Nine sped northward, silently chanting in his heart, "Tianxue, hold on. I finally have the Death Spirit Grass. With it, I can absorb the deathly aura from your body."
Thirty thousand miles from the Death God's Hell lay endless glaciers. In the sky above a forest of icy peaks, Evil Nine faced the coldest mountain and cast several spells upon it.
The ice peak cracked open with a deep passage. Evil Nine flashed inside, and the entrance rippled shut, restoring itself.
Within was a defensive array, runes flickering. At its center lay a transparent ice coffin, inside which rested a beautiful woman. Her skin was gray-white, her face shrouded in dense deathly aura.
Tears streamed down Evil Nine's face as he spoke, "Tianxue, I'm here. This time, I will awaken you and expel the deadly yin aura from your body. I don't know if what I'm doing is right or wrong.
But it doesn't matter now. First, let me wake you."
He sat cross-legged, took out the Death Spirit Grass, and began his spell. The grass's leaves unfurled, sinking into the ice coffin, its roots embedding in the woman's body, swiftly absorbing the deathly aura.
Then Evil Nine took out numerous materials, refining them and periodically tossing the crafted items into the coffin.

For the past half year, Ge Qian had nearly exhausted all his talisman papers and cinnabar, only managing to craft a single Fireball Talisman. Creating talismans was truly no simple skill.
He took out a talisman paper, picked up his brush, and drew one array after another. Upon completion, he cast a spell to seal the Fireball technique within.
Finally, he drew the completion incantation. As he finished, the talisman paper flashed, and spiritual pressure emanated from it.
Ge Qian smiled slightly, examining the talisman closely. Success. Out of ten, only one was usable—the crafting rate far too low.
Now that he had succeeded, he needed to visit Five Peaks City to sell his wares.
Packing up, he left his cave abode, exited the herb garden, and mounted his flying sword straight toward Five Peaks City.
Leaving the Skystar Sect, he sped along on his sword, passing through dense forests when three sword lights followed behind.
The leader was a sixth-level Qi Accumulation cultivator, accompanied by two others at the fourth and fifth levels. The leader, named Liu Zhengwen, possessed an earth spiritual root. Because Ge Qian was not moving at full speed, they quickly caught up.
Liu Zhengwen said, "Brother Ge, are you headed to Five Peaks City?"
Ge Qian paused in midair. "Yes, I'm going to buy a pill furnace. Are you also headed there, Senior Brother?"
"Hahaha, indeed. Then we can travel together—much safer that way," Liu Zhengwen replied.
The fifth-level cultivator, Zhang Biao, chimed in, "That's right. Brother Ge, it's probably your first trip out, so you don't know the dangers—traveling alone. Lucky you met us, or who else would refine pills for us for free?"
Ge Qian thought to himself that it was true; alone, he was vulnerable, and traveling with them would help avoid many dangers. So he said, "Very well, then I ask Senior Brothers to look after me on the road."
Liu Zhengwen was delighted, knowing his pill refining would now be assured. "Of course! Just stick with us. With four of us, danger is much reduced. But everyone should stay alert—follow me!"
He spurred his sword forward, the four forming a line, with Liu Zhengwen leading and the rest following close behind. Ge Qian brought up the rear.
Four sword lights spread out in formation, gliding over mountains, lakes, and forests. When they soared over a mountain, they saw three sword lights chasing two fleeing cultivators.
The two cultivators, seeing Ge Qian's group, cried out desperately, "Fellow Daoists, save us! We will reward you with pills and spirit stones!"
Liu Zhengwen observed that the two were wounded, clearly having fought a fierce battle and likely depleted their spiritual power. Their pursuers also seemed somewhat injured, with not much power left. His eyes flashed as a plan formed.
