Upon hearing this, Yu Dao and the others were all taken aback, bewildered and unsure of what was happening. It wasn’t until Lin He below seemed to discover something that his previously impassive face twitched slightly, abandoning his composure and hopefulness. Without a word, he left Lin Yang alone and retraced his steps.

Even when there was no foothold on the rocks, Lin He disregarded everything and lightly stepped onto the enraged Blazing Flame Beast’s head. He was willing to endure some injury for it, then climbed the previously fallen rock wall and leapt upward.

“That kid’s pretty sharp—he must have noticed something,” Yan Yan said with a sly smile. Then, looking back at Lin Yang and seeing Lin He retreating along the same path with an incomprehensible expression, he sneered, “That Lin Yang’s in trouble. He’s supposed to be a Foundation Establishment cultivator, but he doesn’t even sense the danger?”

“There’s something coming up!” Yu Dao frowned and stared intently at the magma below, his voice low and serious. Yan Yan glanced at him in surprise—this underground magma pool was deep enough that without a strong spiritual sense at the Qi Refining stage, it was nearly impossible to detect anything.

“Run!” Yu Dao used his spiritual power to continuously sense the area beneath the magma, his face turning pale with fear as he shouted.

He then grabbed Yu Yunfan and started retreating, steadily moving away from the cliff’s edge.

The others, seeing this, were confused; even the well-informed Yan Yan thought Yu Dao was overreacting and began to mock him.

However, the first to react was the masked woman holding a long sword. Without asking for reasons, she decisively chose to trust Yu Dao and quickly withdrew.

Shortly after, a flicker of doubt passed through Bai Yiyue’s eyes, and after a brief moment of thought, she too started to retreat.

Just as she began moving backward, the confined space began to tremble violently. The air and spiritual energy churned, and rocks of various sizes began falling from the cliff walls above. The underground magma, which had been steadily rising, now surged fiercely upward.

The Blazing Flame Beasts in the magma seemed to sense something, roaring excitedly as they scattered to the sides, leaving a large open space in the magma’s center.

Even Lin Yang, still unsure of the situation, realized something serious was happening. Amid the roiling magma, he hurriedly planted his feet firmly. A faint scent of burning filled the air, and the temperature around him became terrifyingly intense.

Gazing toward the distant opposite shore, he pulled out all the mysterious ice stones he had and hurled them into the magma, then began retreating.

“What’s going on?!” Xuan Xin shouted.

“Damn it! That guy doesn’t say a word! The thing beneath the magma is waking up!” Yan Yan’s expression changed drastically as he sprang into a run.

“What the hell is that?” Xuan Xin complained, also running backward.

“Lin He! Help me!” Lin Yang shouted from the rock solidified beneath the magma by the ice stones.

Lin He, however, seemed indifferent. After a few breaths, he climbed to the cliff edge, ignoring the flames burning his body from the intense heat, and ran forward without hesitation. Meanwhile, the magma churned even more violently, and the spiritual energy in the space surged rapidly.

“What’s under the magma?!” The clear voice belonged to the masked woman with the sword.

“A creature—a very large one. I don’t know exactly what it is, maybe not even a demon beast. But it’s alive!” Yu Dao glanced backward. The rapidly rising magma was splashing against the cliff’s edge. Strangely, as the magma roiled, the spiritual energy in the air also surged sharply.

“Idiot! That’s not a demon beast; that’s a Flame Spirit!” Yan Yan ran up behind them, mocking.

“Whatever it is, if we don’t run, we’ll die here!” Yu Dao shot back.

“Hey, Lin He, aren’t you going to care about Young Master Yang’s life?” Xuan Xin teased, grinning. Losing an opponent was always good news.

“Yang is different from me. Lucky people always have their own protection,” Lin He replied calmly, his expression devoid of the servile smiles from before, truly indifferent now.

“We need to return to the original passage!” Yu Dao, who had started running first, was about to enter the short tunnel they had used to reach this place.

At this moment, no one cared about the possibility of failing the trial. Given the circumstances, self-preservation was paramount.

“Truly dull,” Bai Li Mo’s voice rang out again, tinged with amusement.

“In that case, would you like to see something?”

As soon as he finished speaking, the previously turbulent magma instantly calmed, the trembling mountain gradually ceased, settling into stillness. But within the magma that had surged to the cliff’s edge, a pair of huge, crimson eyes stared fiercely at them, full of ferocity. Whether due to Bai Li Mo’s presence or not, the creature did not immediately attack.

Hearing Bai Li Mo’s words, the group slowly stopped moving. Yu Dao deliberately glanced toward Lin Yang’s position but found no trace of him near the transformed magma. It was unclear if he had perished—after all, even a true Foundation Establishment cultivator could not survive in such scorching, boiling magma.

The space, once dim, was now bathed in a fiery red glow from the magma, unbearably hot. Even breathing became difficult, as every breath of air burned through every meridian.

“Bai Li Mo, this isn’t a trial anymore; you’re just trying to kill us,” Yan Yan shouted Bai Li Mo’s name first, frustration and helplessness clear in his voice.

“Cultivation is inherently a journey between life and death. If you cannot stand out, you will die like any mortal,” Bai Li Mo replied.

“In this great tide of cultivation, it’s like rowing against the current: if you do not advance, you retreat; advance, and you live; retreat, and you die.”

“Or do you find my trial uninteresting?”

“That’s a Flame Spirit—an excellent creature! If our Flame Sect had one, in time, we could rise from a third or fourth-tier force to a top-ranked power in the Southern Continent,” Yan Yan said with envy and longing.

“Only in the Extreme Flame Lands is there even the slightest chance of giving birth to a Flame Spirit, a celestial essence. To meet one here is extraordinary,” Yu Dao murmured.

The Flame Spirit is one of the five elemental spirits, with only a rare chance of being born in the Extreme Flame Lands. Unlike demon beasts, Flame Spirits are elemental sprites, the essence of heaven and earth.

They are natural spirits, blessed by the heavens.

Even in the Extreme Flame Lands, a Flame Spirit may not appear in a million years. Beyond its great power to alter terrain and environment, the spiritual energy around it is far stronger than in ordinary regions. Some particularly powerful spirits can even influence the weather.

Those who refine a Flame Spirit can become impervious to fire, commanding flames as their sovereign. Their affinity with fire is unparalleled. However, Flame Spirits are fierce and ruthless by nature, making refining them nearly impossible. Even approaching one risks being attacked, and ordinary people who try to absorb a Flame Spirit inside themselves are reduced to ashes.

“A Flame Spirit, that’s a good thing,” a voice echoed inside Yu Dao’s spiritual sea, causing him to frown.

“Can you handle that thing?” Yu Dao asked within his mind.

“You won’t know until you try, but with all that commotion, you likely won’t survive,” the fragmented spirit artifact replied.

“...Then why are you talking so much?” Yu Dao snapped irritably.

“Refining it will greatly benefit you, especially if you practice fire-based cultivation methods. You’ll achieve twice the result with half the effort, and others’ fire spells won’t harm you at all,” the spirit artifact coaxed.

“Don’t mess around. If I die, it won’t do you any good.”

“Hmm~” The spirit artifact fell silent, its intentions unclear.
