Chapter 13
That day, Assistant Wang had been waiting in the living room for a while.
Mr. Li had some personal financial matters to attend to and had brought along his financial assistant. However, Mr. Li hadn’t come downstairs yet, so the three of them were drinking tea in the living room while waiting.
Assistant Wang’s gaze casually swept across the room when suddenly he caught a familiar white figure darting past.
Focusing, he saw a little white cat pushing a cloth with its front paws and scrubbing the floor with its hind paws in a square pattern, working diligently.
Assistant Wang: “?”
What on earth? Wasn’t this the substitute cat from a few days ago?
It had been using Mr. Li’s card to splurge at the mall and even made the trending searches.
So what’s going on now? Has Mr. Li switched scripts again?
Unable to figure it out, Assistant Wang looked toward the housekeeper who had just brought the tea and asked,
“What’s up with Miss’s cat?”
Housekeeper A replied smoothly, “This is our Tom Cat, Little White.”
Assistant Wang: “What cat?”
Housekeeper A enunciated clearly, “Tom Cat.”
Assistant Wang: “...?”
Did he have a generational gap with the younger ladies? He barely understood what she meant.
After explaining, Housekeeper A left, saying their supervisor instructed them to present it that way externally.
Assistant Wang couldn’t comprehend and looked at the cat still scrubbing the floor. He couldn’t help but say, “I thought Mr. Li’s house had a robot vacuum?”
The two financial assistants nearby sighed in awe, “No wonder wealthy families even train cats to clean.”
Assistant Wang: “...”
He felt something wasn’t quite right.
Finally, Li Jingxing came downstairs. Seeing Assistant Wang and the two financial assistants pointing and whispering about his cat, his expression darkened slightly.
“Mr. Li.”
“Mr. Li.”
Upon seeing Li Jingxing, the group quickly stood up to greet him.
Li Jingxing nodded, gesturing for them to sit, then glanced at Little White.
“Has Little White been properly taken care of?”
Assistant Wang: “...Yes.”
Setting aside whether the care was thorough or not, if this got filmed and uploaded online, Mr. Li would surely face a storm of online abuse for mistreating the cat.
Li Jingxing casually said, “Good. If she ever slips up, tell Li Ming directly. She’ll dock Little White’s performance bonus.” He cautioned them not to criticize the cat openly, to avoid hurting her pride.
Assistant Wang: “...”
Typical capitalist— even the cat has a performance review.
After dragging the cloth around once, the little cat felt its paws were dirty and rubbed them on the sofa.
Assistant Wang: “...”
Since she was now a working cat, they were colleagues and there was no need to expose her.
So Assistant Wang turned away nonchalantly.
Li Jingxing spoke, “I have a class reunion tonight. Arrange the event for me.”
Assistant Wang agreed and took the list, spotting a familiar name on it.
Case solved.
This was the storyline where the white moonlight’s substitute cat returned home and was forced out.
Assistant Wang suddenly realized the truth. With absolute professionalism, he helped Li Jingxing arrange the reunion’s activities meticulously to ensure everything went smoothly.
At night, Li Jingxing attended the reunion while the little cat found herself with nothing to do at home.
She tapped her paws back and forth, opened a tablet, and swiped with her paws.
She remembered Assistant Wang saying there were games to play on it.
Curious, she fiddled with the tablet and accidentally opened an app. After watching for a while, her eyes lit up as she pointed at the screen and meowed toward the system.
“Meow!”
Look, this is the human I’ve been scouting.
He’s the one who sold me the little car before.
The tablet played a video of a handsome man dressed in ancient costume, looking melancholic as he sighed at the beauty before him.
The little cat couldn’t help but tap the screen with her paw. “His expression looks so strange.”
The fur on her back nearly stood up.
At some point, the screen showed a magnified thumbs-up icon and a long string of flowers.
Little cat: “? What’s this?”
She asked the system in confusion.
The system replied, “Uh... you just liked Jiang Ye’s post?”
The system explained “liking” to the little cat. Although she didn’t particularly like the performance, she accepted giving Jiang Ye a like.
The system paused.
It didn’t know how to explain that the cat had used Li Jingxing’s public account to like the post.
Previously, the cat had used Li Jingxing’s stock trading app to buy shares in his rival’s company. Li Jingxing logged his account out, intending to take back the tablet, but forgot because of other matters, so the tablet remained under the cat’s paws.
Soon enough, this incident made headlines.
Not only did Li Jingxing have a public social media account, but he managed it quite well. Online, he portrayed the humorous yet straightforward rich second generation, listened to netizens’ feedback to improve company products, and shared his life. However, the account was actually managed by Assistant Wang, and Li Jingxing only glanced at it occasionally on his tablet.
Now, if Li Jingxing remembered to check online during the reunion, he’d likely see a slew of rumors about him and Jiang Ye.
“Li Jingxing never likes posts by artists. Why did he suddenly like Jiang Ye’s today?”
“Recently, Jiang Ye posted about a wealthy neighborhood cat, which is the same cat that was seen earlier with bodyguards at the mall. That cat supposedly belongs to Li Jingxing. His company employees have posted about the company’s ‘miss cat’ — with pictures comparing the two cats. They’re definitely the same.”
“Could it be because the cat knows her?”
“Oh no, could this mean they’re actually involved?”
“Wake up, shipping brains! Maybe Li Jingxing just wants to enter the entertainment industry and is scouting actors.”
“Great! Our brother can finally escape that trash company. Please, Mr. Li, take a look at our brother!”
After learning what “liking” meant, the little cat liked many of Jiang Ye’s posts consecutively. After all, Jiang Ye was her chosen human; she had to show strong support.
With the series of likes from Li Jingxing’s sub-account cat, the comment sections under Jiang Ye and Li Jingxing’s posts became a fan frenzy.
“It’s true, Mr. Li saw our posts. He really plans to invest in entertainment!”
“Awesome! Mr. Li, can you get our brother to star in ‘XX Legend’?”
There were many sarcastic comments, and some even sent popular recent book titles just for fun.
The little cat studied them carefully and finally found one that interested her—“The Adventures of the Cat Hero.”
Her paw firmly tapped the screen.
This was it.
She liked the comment beneath this post.
The topic online became so hot that a friend even sent a WeChat message to ask about it. The little cat saw the chat bubble pop up and tapped around trying to close it, accidentally sending a sticker.

She stared at it silently and felt it was perfect.
So she let go of the paw and stopped paying attention.
The little cat went off to play with her mouse toy, while the friend in the chat was left confused:
“???”
“No way, are you serious?”
“If that’s the case, I’ll push his WeChat to you. You need to use resources. I’ll have him meet you tomorrow.”
Then another WeChat contact was pushed over.
But there was no further response.
The little cat was having fun, rolling and scratching with her mouse toy. When she finally got tired and carried the toy downstairs, she encountered Li Jingxing returning with a tall, stunning beauty.
The beauty raised an eyebrow at her.
“So this is your cat? Quite adorable.”
Li Jingxing frowned slightly upon seeing the little white cat.
“She’s just a housekeeper cat, nothing to care about. Little White, go back to your room.”
The little cat was having so much fun that she didn’t want to go.
So she pretended not to hear, tilted her little cat head, then trotted off.
Zhou Mingxuan laughed and squatted down to block her path.
“Where are you going, little darling? It’s pouring rain outside, you can’t go out.”
Only then did the little cat hear the heavy rain outside. Looking at the weather, she reluctantly carried her mouse toy, preparing to return.
She had planned to take the toy to play with her chosen human.
Just as she turned, Zhou Mingxuan said,
“How about I keep you company for a while?”
The little cat hesitated. She was about to place the mouse in the beautiful human’s palm when Li Jingxing’s voice grew stern:
“Little White, go to your room. Know your place.”
Li Jingxing couldn’t quite explain his feelings but instinctively didn’t want Little White to linger around Mingxuan. He hoped the two wouldn’t meet.
Especially since Little White’s strict appearance made it somewhat cruel to have her appear before Mingxuan.
After hearing the scolding, the little white cat dragged her fluffy tail, lowered her head, and went to a room in the corner of the first floor, looking pitiful.
Zhou Mingxuan looked at Li Jingxing with disapproval.
“How can you treat your cat like that? Cats understand emotions too. Over time, they get hurt. Besides, didn’t you like your cat a lot before and even officially announced it on social media?”
Li Jingxing’s eyes flickered as he stared at her.
“You unfriended me, so how do you know what’s on my social feed?”
Zhou Mingxuan smiled, “A friend screenshot it for me. Everyone’s guessing you have a mysterious girlfriend, so they sent it to me.”
Li Jingxing asked, “And what about you? What do you think?”
Zhou Mingxuan replied, “What does it have to do with me? You’re finding a girlfriend but need your ex’s opinion? What, should I sign off on it?”
Li Jingxing’s voice was rough, “If you don’t want me to...”
Zhou Mingxuan looked at him, “I said it doesn’t concern me. We broke up eight years ago. An ex from eight years ago might as well be a stranger. Our connection is just that we were classmates.”
“Classmates?” Li Jingxing twisted the corner of his mouth. “No one knows we dated. Everyone thinks I had a crush on you, and that you and Lu Yanting were the couple. They think I was the one trying to break you two up. You’re right—we are just classmates.”
Zhou Mingxuan’s expression also grew cold. “I don’t want to revisit the past. Back then, I invested in Lu Yanting’s company and hold shares. I hope you can acquire it rationally and not let personal feelings cloud your judgment.”
Li Jingxing’s heart tightened. He lifted his gaze and stared at her intently before forcing a bitter smile.
“So you really came back because of this.”
He said coldly, “Lu Yanting can negotiate company matters directly. Was it really necessary to involve you too?” Before Zhou Mingxuan could reply, Li Jingxing pointed at the little white cat who had just come out.
“Since it doesn’t concern you, I’ll be straightforward. I did officially announce Little White. She’s not a housekeeper cat. She’s my cat.”
The little cat was stunned. Facing Zhou Mingxuan’s gaze, she wanted to hide somewhere for the first time.
Li Jingxing, you’re making me so embarrassed.
Sensing the cat’s movement, Li Jingxing pressed down on her head to stop her from running off, even defiantly pressed his face against hers in front of Zhou Mingxuan.
The little cat: ...!!
Ahhh!
Embarrassed, she stood frozen, about to claw out her own three-bedroom apartment inside the Li family villa.
Meanwhile, Zhou Mingxuan was stunned watching Li Jingxing’s strange behavior. What he said was true, but it felt odd. How did his cat have anything to do with her?
Also, what exactly was a housekeeper cat?
