Chapter Twelve: Still Lost in a Dream
As soon as Xu Ruowei stepped through the door, she kicked off her shoes and threw her bag onto the floor, then stormed into the living room and plopped down heavily on the sofa. She propped her feet up on the coffee table, completely ignoring Xu Ye standing on the stairs, as if she were the true mistress of the house.
In truth, that was exactly how she saw herself. After all, Xu Ye was just a dog she raised; how could the things belonging to the dog not belong to her as its owner?
But today, she was furious—this wretched, despicable bootlicker Xu Ye had repeatedly defied her, showing her no respect at all.
He had been spoiled rotten—who gave him the nerve?
“By the way, where’s my fruit? Xu Ye, didn’t you prepare it for me today? Why are you just standing there? Hurry up!”
Normally, no matter the time, whenever she returned home, Xu Ye would personally prepare a fruit platter for her—imported from abroad and air-shipped fresh that very day. Even the grapes would be peeled and de-seeded for her, because she didn’t like eating them any other way.
But today, there was nothing. Coupled with everything that had happened throughout the day, her anger suddenly exploded.
“Xu Ye! What’s wrong with you today? Why do you keep going against me again and again? Didn’t you promise me before? With that attitude today, do you realize how much face you’ve made me lose? And what about Pei An and Jiang Yang—how dare you? Do you know how much trouble you’ve caused me by injuring them?”
She was truly about to blow a fuse—especially because he had dared to hit Pei An, whom she cherished so dearly. She had held him tightly and never wanted to let go, yet Xu Ye had beaten him until his face was bruised and swollen. If he didn’t give her a satisfactory explanation today, she would never let him off.
But Xu Ye laughed outright.
This woman still carried that commanding, imperious attitude. Who gave her the confidence?
Had she really not accepted reality yet, still thinking that he was the same brainless, bootlicking dog from their past life, obediently following her every command?
“You still have the nerve to laugh? Xu Ye! Did you not hear me asking you? Have I really been giving you too much face?”
Xu Ye’s eyes turned icy as he stared at her.
“How many times have I warned you today? What right do you have to question me? Have you forgotten your own status? After playing the part for so long, have you really mistaken me for your servant and yourself as the young lady of the Xu family?”
“You—”
Xu Ruowei’s eyes bulged in disbelief, her lungs about to burst with rage.
Before she could say more, Wu Jinyong, alerted by the commotion, hurried over, abandoning her own schemes. No, or rather, the schemes involving her elder brother could wait. The most important thing now was to join her daughter in giving that dog-like Xu Ye a proper lesson!
“Ruowei, you’re back! Want something to eat first? A box of black-skinned watermelons and Roman Ruby grapes just arrived by air today. Wait here—I’ll get them for you right now!”
Wu Jinyong didn’t hesitate to open the home safe and took out the black-skinned watermelons and Roman Ruby grapes.
“Thanks, Mom. You’re the best. Unlike someone who was way out of line today!”
Xu Ruowei was even less polite, greedily eating the fruit and glaring fiercely at Xu Ye.
“I’m exhausted. That someone purposely took the car away today and didn’t wait for me, so I had to take a taxi back myself.”
“But the ride-hailing service wouldn’t even let me in. I had to walk all the way in, and my heels are completely rubbed raw!”
As she spoke, she deliberately showed her scraped heels, as if she had suffered a terrible injustice.
“Xiao Ye, that’s your fault. How could you treat Ruowei like that? Hurry and check her feet. Oh, and remember to bring the medicine box!”
With her daughter backing her up, Wu Jinyong began scolding Xu Ye without any restraint, her tone commanding.
“Are you two really that thick-headed? Haven’t you heard a word I say?”
Xu Ye laughed bitterly.
“Not done yet? Do you really not know who’s boss here?”
His final shout was like a rolling thunder, echoing through the entire villa.
All the servants stopped their work, rushing in from all directions, standing quietly and watching from concealed spots, their expressions enigmatic.
“Xu Ruowei, what’s your status? Whose house is this? Who allowed you to put your feet on my coffee table? Take them down right now!”
“Me, serving you fruit? Showing you my feet? What exactly do you think you are? Have you no sense of propriety?”
“Do you really think you’re the mistress of this house and treat me like a dog you raised?”
Xu Ye scolded harshly, exuding the authority of the rightful heir of the Xu family.
“And you, Wu Jinyong, this house pays you to work, not to act like a queen or the mistress!”
“Without my permission, who gave you the nerve to touch my fruit?”
“That black-skinned watermelon cost nearly twenty thousand, the grapes fifty thousand. I’m deducting that from your salary.”
“Your daughter being clueless is one thing, but you too? Do you really take my family’s home as your own? Doing whatever you want with no rules or boundaries?”
Xu Ye’s voice grew colder, the corners of his mouth curling into a strange, chilling smile.
Yes, why was he so determined to get rid of this Wu woman? Wouldn’t it be better to keep her under his watchful eye and slowly torment her?
Enjoy being ungrateful?
Devouring my family’s wealth and ruining us?
If you don’t make your lives a living hell, how would I justify this second chance at life?
Everyone else was stunned, utterly confused about what was happening.
The young master seemed completely out of character today.
In the past, he always fawned around Xu Ruowei, flattering her submissively to the bone.
But now...
God, am I dreaming?
“Xiao Ye, that fruit was for Ruowei. Didn’t you forget? She loves black-skinned watermelon and Roman Ruby grapes the most…”
Wu Jinyong’s face turned green, utterly unable to comprehend Xu Ye’s madness todayI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
