Chapter Nine: The Angry Bird
After returning to the Jiang family home, night had already fallen completely.
Sister-in-law Shi breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing her daughter come back.
“Why are you so late today?” she asked with concern, helping her daughter take off her backpack.
“I went to deliver homework to a classmate. Mom, do you have anything to eat? I’m really hungry!” Shi Zhaodi said as she sipped water.
“I saved you two small pastries. Eat those first, then do your homework. I’ll bring you dinner later,” her mother said, placing a plate with the pastries before her.
“Okay, thanks, Mom!” Shi Zhaodi took the plate and began devouring the pastries ravenously.
“Eat more slowly!” her mother gently chided, watching her daughter with affection.
“Mom, you go ahead and do what you need to. I’ll start my homework once I finish eating,” Shi Zhaodi mumbled with her mouth full.
“All right, then focus on your homework. I’ll get going,” her mother nodded and left the room.
After finishing the snacks, Shi Zhaodi drank the remaining water in her cup. Then, with her backpack on, she headed toward Jiang Hao’en’s room.
Jiang Hao’en wasn’t inside, so Shi Zhaodi placed her homework notebook on the desk and began working, waiting for him to return.
---
When Jiang Hao’en entered, he was not at all surprised to find Shi Zhaodi bent over the desk, diligently doing her homework.
Noticing his arrival, Shi Zhaodi turned her head sweetly and called out, “Brother, you’re back!”
“Hm,” Jiang Hao’en replied calmly, nodding slightly, and warned, “Don’t keep your head so low like that.”
Quickly, Shi Zhaodi raised her head a bit.
Jiang Hao’en went into the bedroom to take a shower, while Shi Zhaodi continued with her homework.
By the time Jiang Hao’en finished showering and came out, Shi Zhaodi had already completed her homework and was packing her bag.
She then sat down beside him.
“Brother, you won’t believe it! A really annoying classmate joined our class. He’s always late, leaves early, skips class, sleeps during lessons, and even dares to skip exams!” Shi Zhaodi launched into a passionate tirade about how bad and detestable Zou Kai was.
Jiang Hao’en barely reacted, but Shi Zhaodi didn’t mind and kept talking relentlessly.
---
“I’m the class monitor, so I have to care for and help all the students. But he’s really terrible—he doesn’t pay attention in class at all and hates studying. Today, he didn’t come to class, so I took the assigned homework and test papers to his house. He even told me I was meddling!”
She couldn’t understand why Zou Kai disliked studying so much.
How could he possibly sleep during class? With the teacher lecturing, how could he fall asleep?
Jiang Hao’en poured a glass of water and handed it to Shi Zhaodi.
She drank it down in one gulp and then continued her complaints.
