Chapter Sixty-Two: Wishing You Happiness [Happy New Year]
A melodious and joyful tune echoed by his ears. Even the blaring of trumpets and suona couldn't conceal the happiness woven into the music—a sweetness, a carefree delight, and a hint of anticipation.
Sunlight pierced the azure sky, warm and gentle, bathing his body and stirring a lazy drowsiness. Du Fang, dressed in a black trench coat, smiled.
Indeed, this familiar scene—no doubt, yet another delightful dream to refresh the soul.
Du Fang was long accustomed to beautiful dreams. Since resistance was futile, the only thing left was to enjoy them.
He began to survey his surroundings and found himself in a mansion reminiscent of an ancient courtyard. The place was bustling; round tables were set everywhere, laden with sumptuous dishes fit for a banquet.
Red crab, lobster, abalone, Buddha Jumps Over the Wall… all manner of expensive delicacies and delights were arrayed before him.
A festive banquet, a joyful wedding feast.
“Brother Du, you’re here?”
Suddenly, a warm, gentle voice sounded beside him. An arm, white as jade, slipped around his elbow, accompanied by a soft touch.
Du Fang turned his head and saw a beautiful maiden with delicate makeup, wearing a pink gauzy dress, her chest revealing a deep ravine.
He didn’t know who she was, but it didn’t stop him from flashing a practiced, dazzling smile.
“Hello, Miss.”
Du Fang beamed. His handsome face, flawless in its angles, left the young lady somewhat dazzled.
Farther away, at another round banquet table, several girls similarly dressed in pink gauze and revealing deep cleavages beckoned to Du Fang.
The maiden at his side led him to sit at this table.
“This is the bridesmaids’ table. We are all bridesmaids today,” the lively girl said with a cheerful grin, as if infected by the festive atmosphere.
Du Fang didn’t question why he could sit at the bridesmaids’ table. Instead, he smiled, “Today is truly a joyous day.”
He blended happily into the wedding celebration.
After all, each bridesmaid was stunning, with great figures, deep cleavages, sweet smiles, and charming voices.
Du Fang conversed with them; the bridesmaids laughed, waves rising and falling, making Du Fang feel as though he faced a sea of white foam.
After a pleasant chat, the maiden who first took his arm blinked her large eyes at him.
“Brother Du, we have a small request. We hope you’ll agree.”
Du Fang smiled and paused. This was the first time he’d encountered a request from a dream figure.
“Of course. Tell me, if I can do it, I surely will.”
The bridesmaid’s smile grew gentle.
“We want to invite Brother Du to offer a blessing to the bride.”
All the bridesmaids looked at Du Fang with hopeful eyes.
Du Fang was taken aback, then laughed.
That’s all?
What kind of request was this? A blessing? Just a few words for the newlyweds—a trivial matter, not something Du Fang would refuse.
...
...
“Red veil… red embroidered shoes?”
“Why am I wearing a red veil? I’m not the bride!”
Lan Xiang was so furious he could explode.
Even for a supernatural event, this was too humiliating, wasn’t it? He was a man! How could he marry someone! Besides, he was a Dreamwalker, awakened with superior special abilities—couldn’t this nightmare monster show some respect?
Quickly, Lan Xiang calmed down.
But not for any other reason—because of the red embroidered shoes on his feet.
“Something’s wrong. How did my luck become so bad? It shouldn’t be. I awakened superior abilities; my luck can’t be this poor. Just entered the dream disaster, and immediately encountered the strangest event—the red embroidered shoes?”
If Lan Xiang could see himself in a mirror now, he’d think his face looked especially unlucky.
He yanked off the red veil and found not only the veil but his black trench coat had transformed into a red wedding dress.
“Bad luck!”
Lan Xiang angrily began to strip off the wedding dress, but after he finished, with a blink, the dress was back on him.
His scalp tingled and his heart raced. He dashed out of the bridal chamber into the courtyard.
As soon as he left the room, the trumpet and suona music grew louder.
He saw the courtyard filled with red round tables, laden with food.
Lan Xiang glanced at the dishes—braised lion’s head looked like bloody eyeballs, cabbage with tofu resembled neat bowls of cooked human brains—a wave of nausea rose from his chest.
He looked away, scanning the guests at the banquet tables, only to find each seat occupied by an upright vermillion coffin!
His scalp tingled even more.
Who was he supposed to marry? No, who was the original bride supposed to marry? Was it a dead person?
In the center, several musicians played the trumpets and suona.
Lan Xiang looked closer and saw the musicians were terrifying—some missing arms, others missing legs. They were hunched, heads askew, mouths split open, and as they played, blood sprayed from the instruments.
This dream disaster… truly was a bit terrifying.
Lan Xiang swallowed hard and his trembling hand summoned a mirror.
This was a high-grade forbidden artifact borrowed from Sun Yaohai!
Lan Xiang planned to activate it and force his way out of the mansion.
“Brother Xiang.”
Suddenly, a familiar voice called from behind—it was Sun Zhe.
Lan Xiang’s face brightened.
“Sun Zhe, perfect timing, let’s join f—!”
He glanced back at Sun Zhe, but the word “forces” froze in his throat.
He looked down, bewildered, as a sharp blade pierced through his chest, dripping with blood.
It was Sun Zhe’s dagger.
Just like brothers—stab when you say stab.
Then Lan Xiang noticed Sun Zhe was wearing a groom’s suit, with a big red flower pinned to his chest.
Sun Zhe nodded, grinned crookedly.
So, I’m supposed to marry you, Sun Zhe?
Lan Xiang nearly lost his mind.
This dream disaster… was truly revolting.
“Madam, time for the ceremony.”
Sun Zhe looked at Lan Xiang, grinning crookedly.
Lan Xiang froze, sensing something was wrong.
This wasn’t Sun Zhe!!!
Boom!
Lan Xiang coughed blood, pressed a finger to his brow, and sent a wave of dream spirit power.
He released his special ability: “Soul Control.”
Sun Zhe, who seemed about to stab him again, suddenly froze, pulled the dagger, and stabbed it into his own neck.
Blood sprayed, splattering Lan Xiang’s face.
Yet Sun Zhe kept smiling, his mouth twisted.
“Madam, time for the ceremony…”
Lan Xiang’s face darkened as he coughed blood, using Soul Control to force Sun Zhe to keep stabbing himself.
Finally, the head was severed completely.
Yet Sun Zhe’s head kept smiling and speaking: “Madam, time for the ceremony.”
Lan Xiang was about to go insane.
He understood.
This Sun Zhe wasn’t Sun Zhe—he was already dead!
He wasn’t marrying a living person.
Lan Xiang staggered back into the courtyard, gripping the forbidden mirror, unable to bite his finger and use blood to unlock it in time.
The banquet guests—those coffins—had their lids fall to the ground.
After a dull thud, figures like walking corpses emerged from each coffin.
These walking corpses wore varied attire, had different identities—some bridesmaids, some matchmakers, some widows from mountain villages, some old cart pushers…
But without exception, all were grotesque.
Lan Xiang’s chest kept spraying blood as he gritted his teeth, using Soul Control.
He only managed to control three or four guests.
The rest swarmed him, pinning him down. The widow with falling flesh even took the opportunity to grope him, squeezing his bottom, before dragging him toward the ceremonial hall.
Lan Xiang struggled, trembling in terror, but couldn’t break free.
Sun Zhe’s severed head bounced along, grinning crookedly.
“Time for the ceremony, time for the ceremony…”
Lan Xiang wept uncontrollably.
Not like this!
He didn’t want the ceremony. He was a man; he couldn’t marry a man!
“Why is my luck so bad? Why did I immediately encounter the strongest forbidden red embroidered shoes in this dream disaster?”
Lan Xiang was desperate.
Was he going to be eliminated in the first round?
Thud.
He was forced to his knees, kneeling on the ground.
Before him were giant red candles and a massive “Double Happiness” character.
Music from the netherworld’s trumpets and suona erupted once more.
Beside him, Sun Zhe’s head bounced, bearing a blood-dripping red flower.
A red veil fluttered down from above, covering his head again.
Suddenly, as he was veiled once more, Lan Xiang glimpsed something among the walking corpses pressing him down.
He abruptly straightened, tore off the veil, and turned to look.
Among the walking corpses.
At the main table of the wedding feast.
Du Fang, dressed in a black trench coat, sat quietly, head tilted, smiling as he watched Lan Xiang’s ceremony.
Lan Xiang felt bewildered, his whole body trembling.
Wasn’t that… the newcomer from Wildfire, Du Fang?
Then,
He saw Du Fang’s lips part, slowly speaking,
Imparting an utterly sincere blessing.
“It takes a hundred years to cross the same boat, a thousand years to share the same pillow.”
“May you be happy.”
