Chapter 131: Gu Sha Appears
Bai Feng and Wu Ji were both humans, yet their attire leaned toward the retro; Bai Feng wore a Taoist robe, while Wu Ji wore traditional Hanfu. Though both were young, they inexplicably carried an air of ethereal detachment, especially as they descended on flying swords, much like the sword immortals of Longzhou mythology.
As the two of them appeared, the atmosphere at the scene reached a fever pitch. Many took out their phones to take photos, and some even started live streams immediately.
A streamer on the Global Forum with the ID "Broken Sword" was shouting "Gu Sha" directly in his broadcast. This man was one of the bloggers whom Gu Sha had tagged in a post a few days prior with the message, "Wait for me to kill you." He was a person of considerable strength. When the Global Forum was first established, he was one of the Global Sequences. Later, when the world underwent cataclysmic changes and the gods descended, he was among the first to defect to the Red Golden Crane clan. Favored by them, he became one of the first humans on Earth to break through to the rank of War King.
As a lackey for the Red Golden Crane clan, he knew full well why the various god-level factions were guiding public opinion online to criticize Gu Sha: it was to extinguish human self-belief so that these god-level factions could rule Earth more easily. He naturally felt compelled to serve his masters, attacking Gu Sha online in every way possible. Even after Gu Sha appeared and posted "Wait for me to kill you," he remained highly active.
In his live stream, Broken Sword shouted arrogantly, "Where are those Gu-fanatics? Where are Gu Sha’s brainless fans? Didn't you think Gu Sha could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the gods in his mortal body? Why are you silent now? The God of Red Feathers is right here in the Taihang Mountains! Tell him to come!"
Broken Sword turned his camera toward the God of Red Feathers and yelled, "Where are you, Gu Sha? Didn't you post on the forum that you were coming to kill me? I’m in the Taihang Mountains now! Come on out! Forget challenging the God of Red Feathers; I’m afraid you can’t even beat me. Everyone, all you brainless Gu Sha fans, go call him to kill me! I’m right here in the Taihang Mountains! Gu Sha, don't be a coward!"
The stone stirred a thousand waves. After Broken Sword’s challenge, many others began to provoke Gu Sha on the forum one after another. Some posted mockery, some left comments under Gu Sha’s ID, and some followed Broken Sword’s lead by live-streaming their ridicule.
Although many were trying to drag Gu Sha off his pedestal, there were still quite a few who defended him, and a fierce war of words erupted online.
"Mad Blade," known as the number one Gu Sha fan, immediately posted that Gu Sha didn't need to lift a finger; once he finished his current business, he would come to Longbei to kill Broken Sword. Following Mad Blade’s statement, the former honorary president of the J City Barrier, who had since established his own mercenary group, also tagged Broken Sword on the forum, pointing out that the man’s words were too excessive. Han Ze had a great reputation among the people.
In an instant, this added fuel to the fire, and within minutes, the topic of Broken Sword challenging Gu Sha climbed to the top of the trending list.
Broken Sword, currently live-streaming, saw comments in his chat reminding him of the posts by Han Ze and Mad Blade. He gave a disdainful laugh and said, "Who can't talk big? That guy—Mad Blade, right? I know you’re the number one Gu-fanatic. As for President Han Ze, I won’t say much; regardless, you have made contributions to humanity. But Gu Sha is just a scum-sucking clown. He has made no contributions to humanity; instead, he causes internal strife when we should be working together. People like him are just trash, human scum..."
Broken Sword launched a barrage of attacks against Gu Sha. Setting aside how many people were in the live stream, even many of the superhumans present found it hard to listen to. These were the elite of humanity, and having survived from the beginning of the apocalypse, there were few "virtue-signaling" types among them; they were generally quite rational. While in the current anti-Gu Sha trend, most people disliked him due to the various scandals, it could not be denied that Gu Sha had once been hailed as humanity’s last hope, and he must have had his merits—he was not as wretched as Broken Sword portrayed him.
In Broken Sword’s mouth, Gu Sha was nothing but a shameless, vile, and despicable villain. Finally, a War King who had once been a fan of Gu Sha could no longer stand it. He clashed with Broken Sword on the spot, and things even turned physical, leading to chaos at the scene.
This turmoil below caught the attention of the four War Emperors who were currently dividing up territories on a small hill nearby. Lin Miaoyi glanced at Red Feather and said, "That Broken Sword is one of your men, isn't he? Aren't you going down to handle it?"
Red Feather shook his head. "I don’t think there’s anything wrong with what he said. I’ve looked into that Gu Sha. While he isn't as wretched as Broken Sword claims, he is merely someone who gained power through an opportunity at the start of the apocalypse and became inflated. He is the very picture of a small man who has gained power. With all of humanity facing disaster, he has the ability but refuses to help, focusing only on himself. I despise such people, but I have no interest in disciplining him, nor do I have any interest in speaking up for such a selfish, small-minded person."
Lin Miaoyi shook her head and said, "I actually think he’s quite decent. Never judge someone else’s actions without having walked in their shoes. We were born into better circumstances and haven't experienced that desperate apocalypse; we really have no right to judge others. Perhaps if we were in his situation, we might have done even worse."
"Ha," Red Feather scoffed, "No matter how desperate I was, I would never step on the corpses of my own people to rise in power!"
Lin Miaoyi didn't say more but turned to Bai Feng and Wu Ji, asking, "What do you think?"
Bai Feng and Wu Ji shared a smile and shook their heads. Bai Feng did add, "Gu Sha is human, possesses excellent talent, and has a strong will. If he had been born in a better world, he might have achieved something great. If he were willing, I would like to take him to Qianyuan Star to join my Flying Sword Sect."
"You’d even take someone like that? The Flying Sword Sect has truly fallen," Red Feather retorted. Bai Feng did not argue.
Just then, a commotion erupted in the crowd below, drawing their eyes. A young man appeared at the foot of the hill, dressed in black sportswear with a black-gold Tang sword strapped to his back. His expression was cold, and the crowd automatically parted to create a path.
Gu Sha!
Many at the scene recognized him. This was the man who once held the title of the world’s number one sequence and was hailed as the man closest to god. As Gu Sha appeared, the crowd exploded. Gu Sha walked straight toward Broken Sword, who was still live-streaming. At that moment, the chat rooms of everyone live-streaming at the scene went wild, flooded by countless viewers.
"I heard you were looking for death?" Gu Sha said coldly.
Looking at Gu Sha, Broken Sword said righteously, "You don't deserve to be called a god! You slaughter the innocent, you are selfish and greedy—is there anything wrong with what I said? You—"
Broken Sword’s voice came to an abrupt end. Gu Sha had reached out and gripped his throat. With a slight squeeze, a "snap" echoed out; Broken Sword’s neck shattered, and his corpse was tossed onto the ground.
"Damn it," Gu Sha flicked his hand and muttered, "There’s always some idiot who thinks he’s something special."
