“Liu Qiang, what the hell are you doing?” Han Ze erupted in fury, instantly reaching out to snatch the patriarch of the Liu family’s phone. But the Liu patriarch had already hung up. He said, “Han Ze, it’s useless. Even if you call right now, you can't command my people in the Barrier Center!”

Han Ze roared, “Liu Qiang, are you out of your mind?”

“I think you’re the one who’s lost it. You’re playing games with the entire Barrier, with millions of lives at stake. I can’t beat you, you could kill me right now, but as long as I’m alive, I absolutely won’t let you gamble the entire Barrier on a single word from Gu Sha!” the Liu patriarch shouted.

Han Ze took a deep breath. “Liu Qiang, listen to me. Call your people and tell them to stand down. I’m trying to help you, truly. I don’t want to see the Barrier Center awash in blood.”

Liu Qiang replied coldly, “I’ve never denied the superiority of the extraordinary. Now, in this apocalypse, their abilities have exceeded my expectations. But at this moment, Gu Sha is still just a man, not a god!

Han Ze, I know you’re one of the extraordinary, so you have faith in their power. You revere Gu Sha, who stands at the forefront, but haven’t you noticed? Since Gu Sha came to the Barrier, you've started to mythologize him in your heart. He’s strong, no doubt, but he’s only human!

Wake up. You’ve become obsessed. Gu Sha is just a man, not a god. He walks the line between man and beast, cold to the extreme. Such a person should not be idolized. Think carefully: does he deserve to have us bet everything on the Barrier for just a single word?”

Han Ze answered gravely, “I won’t argue with you anymore. I will carry out the transfer of existing forces no matter what. I firmly believe City C is about to be hit by an earthquake, and I’ll mobilize my people right now. You can refuse, I won’t force you!”

“You—”

Just then, the Yang family patriarch stepped in to mediate. “Why don’t you both calm down for now? Liu patriarch, we all know what kind of person President Han is. He wouldn’t blindly worship anyone. Perhaps Gu Sha has a valid point. Why don’t we ask him directly what’s going on?”

Seeing Han Ze standing his ground, the Liu patriarch hesitated, worried Han Ze might really reassign his subordinate forces. He immediately picked up his phone and dialed out.

Meanwhile, in the Barrier Administration Center, Gu Sha sat bewildered.

He had no idea what was happening. He was sitting quietly in the reception room. The staff had mentioned they’d received an official document from the Extraordinary Association, but it was too sudden, and they needed to coordinate with higher authorities before Gu Sha could retrieve the alien bone.

It was just protocol, nothing unusual. Gu Sha waited patiently, sipping tea.

Never did he expect that after a phone call, the staff would summon a large squad of fully armed soldiers, dozens of guns pointed straight at him.

Gu Sha’s expression remained calm as he gently set his teacup down and looked at the officer in charge—a director of the Barrier Center named Yang Yuan, a man in his thirties.

“Director Yang, what does this mean?” Gu Sha asked.

Yang Yuan replied coldly, “Sorry, Mr. Gu. I’ve just received orders. You are suspected of being an extremist, intent on destabilizing the Barrier. I am commanded to apprehend and detain you. Please cooperate and don’t make things difficult for me.”

Gu Sha had no idea what was happening, nor did he care to find out. He said icily, “What I hate most is people inexplicably pointing guns at me!”

He rose swiftly.

“Fire!”

Gu Sha was taken aback. He hadn’t expected them to issue a shoot order so decisively.

In that instant, his face darkened.

He had never officially joined the Barrier government, always interacting through cooperation. The matters with the Extraordinary Association were purely business. He’d predicted terrorist attacks, saved countless Barrier executives at Tianhu District, then rescued Bai Ziyu, and in the past few days, hunted down mutant beasts and zombies everywhere. His contributions to the Barrier were immense. In fact, the rapid recovery after Bai Ziyu’s group’s scheme owed much to him. These days, he’d slain over a dozen special mutant beasts, saving many lives among officials and civilians alike.

Yet now, over a matter he knew nothing about, they were trying to kill him outright!

The air erupted with gunfire—bullets swarmed toward Gu Sha. The reception room was small, and dozens of guns blocked the doorway, leaving no room to dodge.

But Gu Sha didn’t even try. He swung the bone in his hand, not even invoking its inscribed power, and simply deflected the bullets away.

With each sweep, bullets flew, their force no less than those fired from the guns. Unlike Gu Sha, the soldiers couldn’t block bullets—they were hit and dropped to the floor.

Screams echoed. Many soldiers at the door fell, wounded.

Gu Sha, wielding his bone club, reached the entrance and in a few swift blows laid all the soldiers low, leaving blood streaming, their fate uncertain.

Director Yang’s face turned pale as he called for reinforcements from all over the building, summoning a dense swarm of soldiers to besiege Gu Sha.

Just then, Director Yang’s phone rang again. The voice of the Liu patriarch came through: “Let Gu Sha answer the phone!”

Director Yang, white-faced, was about to speak when gunfire erupted throughout the hall, followed by screams. Gu Sha, holding his bone club, strolled through the chaos as if it were a garden walk, utterly indifferent to the guns, which had no effect on him. A swarm of soldiers were sent flying all over the building.

Gu Sha appeared before Director Yang. Director Yang, phone pressed to his ear, was about to reply when Gu Sha grabbed his neck. With a crack, Director Yang’s eyes widened in terror, his neck snapped, dead in an instant.

The phone dropped, and Gu Sha caught it.

From the phone came the Liu patriarch’s agitated voice: “Yang Yuan, what are you doing? Did you not hear me? Let Gu Sha answer the phone, immediately, right now!”

Gu Sha replied calmly, “Patriarch Liu, was it your order to kill me?”

“Gu Sha?” Liu patriarch sounded surprised, then demanded, “Gu Sha, why are you fearmongering about an earthquake in City C? What exactly are you plotting? If the earthquake doesn’t happen, how will you answer for it?”
